WxMaxima is a cross platform GUI for the computer algebra system maxima based on wxWidgets.
wxMaxima features include:
2D formatted math display: wxMaxima implements its own math display engine to nicely display maxima output.
Menu system: most maxima commands are available through menus. Most used functions are also available through a button panel at below the input line.
Dialogs: commands which require more that one argument can be entered through dialogs so that there is no need to remember the exact syntax.
Command line history: the input line has command history and command completion based on previous input.
Create documents: text can be mixed with math calculations to create documents. See the howto for tips on how to use these features. Documents can be saved and edited again later.
Animations: version 0.7.4 adds support for simple animations.

- Download the latest Maxima version, which is currently: 5.45.1-Windows. You should download the first file you see, ending with
win64.exe, unless you have an old CPU, in which case you will need thewin32.exeversion. - Run that file you downloaded to start the installation process. It might take some time, because the installation program will also install other additional programs separate from Maxima.
- Once the installation process ends, look in the directory where you installed Maxima, which will be something similar to:
C:maxima_5.45.1. In that directory you should find a sub-directory namedbin, which has the programs that were installed. Before you run any of those programs, make sure your antivirus will not touch the programs there. If you're not sure, make a backup of that directory somewhere. It happens very often that after the first time you run Maxima the antivirus deletes the program considering a virus. The back-up will help you recover the missing files without having to install Maxima again. - Before running Maxima, execute the program lispselector which is in the same
bindirectory mentioned in the previous step. Select 'SBCL' which will solve many errors that appear when using the default 'Clisp'. - Try the three interfaces to Maxima that you will find in the
